Used clothing donations

If you are thinking of donating some old items you found when you were cleaning out your closet, it might be helpful to bring them to a Purple Heart donation site. You might have heard the Purple Heart name used quite a bit, but what exactly is so special about this organization and what does my donation help do for other people?

The Purple Heart is a Congressionally-chartered charity made up of men and women who have served in the military and have received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat. Purple Heart programs help to support all veterans and their families with different programs, and donating to the charity allows for some of the proceeds to be used for programs to help all these men and women. It is one of the greatest wounded veterans charities around and your used clothing donations can really help to touch the lives of many different people.

What kinds of items can you donate to the Purple Heart charity?

You would be surprised at the amount of clothing that ends up in landfills each year. In fact, the average American throws away about 70 pounds of clothing, linens, and other textiles annually. Those clothes can be given to charities and recycled to help other people and to keep them out of landfills which harm the planet, and you can easily take them to a nearby clothing drop off. Almost 100 percent of all clothing and textiles can be recycled, so if you are worried about the condition they are in, as long as they seem pretty acceptable it should be okay to give to charity, or you can also use your old clothes for DIY projects or to cut up for towels and other recyclable projects. Recycling clothes really help the environment, and almost half (45%) of all used clothes is worn as secondhand clothing. Look for a local clothing drop off location.

Household items

Items such as coffee makers and other kitchen appliances, jewelry, luggage, buttons, vases, and towels can all be donated to a nearby clothing drop off station.

You might be surprised to know that you can actually give away electronics as well, including printers, hard drives, software and accessories, telephones, computer monitors, cell phones, radios, and DVD players.

As you can see, there are a lot of different items you can give to a nearby Purple Heart clothing drop off site, and you can walk away knowing that you have positively impacted someone else’s life.
