The modern construction industry is a truly vast one, and in the United States alone, it is worth over $1 trillion. Many different contractor crews are hard at work pooling their resources to build houses, apartments, offices, banks, schools, and more, and construction zones are a familiar sight everywhere. But newer and more efficient construction methods have entered the market too, and they are more resource-efficient and flexible than anything that came before them. Warehouse offices, in-plant modular offices, mobile offices, and more can be built with modular office building technology, and modular office buildings and hotels can be found all over the developed world today. An in-plant modular office is more useful than a fixed office room, and these in-plant modular offices can be moved around if need be. The same is true for offices that are placed near traditional construction zones.
All About Modular Office Technology
This idea is fairly new, but it is already proving itself, and it is becoming widespread. Around 90% of engineers, 84% of contractors, and 76% of all architects are using prefab and modular construction methods for some of their projects (if not all), and some buildings can be made this way from top to bottom. Marriott International, for example, once promised to use modular tech to build 13% of its North American developments in 2017. And in 2011, prefab and modular tech proved popular too: 49% of survey respondents said that they used it to build healthcare facilities, and 42% use it for college buildings and another 42% used it for manufacturing facilities.
How does it work? Prefab modular rooms are constructed indoors in a plant, rather than outside, which not only shields everyone from the elements but greatly reduces waste, and lowers construction time, too. The Building Industry Association of Philadelphia once reported that modular construction can reduce waste by 9-20%, and the UK-based WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) noted that modular tech may reduce waste materials by up to 90% in some cases. This includes bricks, cement, concrete, wood pallets, shrinkwrap, and even cardboard and plasterboard, not to mention timber. Leftover scraps or materials can be easily reclaimed during construction, and this eliminates the need to hire junk removal services, too.
Once a modular room, such as in-plant modular offices, are done, they can be transported to the construction site and easily fitted into the current structure. Mobile offices can just be set in place, while modular offices and rooms can be installed with ease, since they are prefabricated and come with all necessary plumbing, electrical wire, and other utilities. This makes installation fast, and little maintenance is needed once these rooms are put in place. Not only can offices be made this way, but also bathrooms and break rooms as well, and of course, hotel and apartment rooms.
Warehouse Rooms and Walls
Once an office building or hotel is built, its rooms are permanent, but a warehouse is a different story. These facilities may need to shift their walls, offices, and storage space to adjust to their ever-changing stock, so permanent features are minimal. Instead, office managers need to purchase and use partition walls and systems, and such walls are bought prefabricated and ready to use once they arrive. These walls can even come with functioning windows and doors, and they can be arranged to form temporary offices and stock rooms as needed. A warehouse manager can also choose a roomy spot in the central area and set up a mobile office, so they can conveniently see everyone and everything from their vantage point.
On a somewhat related note, warehouses also need mobile storage solutions, such as conveyor belts and other movable items, to more easily put stock into storage and access items from all across the warehouse. It would be slow and tiresome to retrieve these items with normal means, but conveyors and other devices can bring stock to a worker quickly and easily. Of course, the warehouse’s storage racks and rooms should be arranged for neat and orderly storage to make this possible.
