It has to do with the fact the people read from left to right and will have already started judging the price the moment the begin reading it. The lower beginning numbers help to convince customers to sell even though $14.99 is about the same as $15.00.

Tag Quality and Font

Those little orange tags with a printed number on them send a different message than a big cardboard tag with a design on it. They both send a different message than a big yellow sales or clearance tag. You can adjust the way people perceive a product by using custom price tags for retail items. The design of the tag tells a customer whether the item is a quality purchase or not, right down to the font. Unsightly fonts or fonts that are hard to read will drive eyes away rather than drawing them in.
