From commercial litigation to complex civil litigation to international judicial relations and international arbitration, there are many important components to our legal world – as well as many different important types of legal cases. For instance, cases of product liability are very common indeed.
Cases of product liability tend to fall under the larger umbrella of personal injury litigation. And while common, cases of product liability are only just one type of personal injury case. In addition to cases revolving around product liability, cases surrounding things like medical malpractice, premises liability, and car accidents (or other such motor vehicle accidents) can also be expected. Product liability cases, however, still remain in the top five types of personal injury cases seen throughout the country.
Car accidents and other such motor vehicle accidents, however, account for the brunt of all personal injury cases. After all, there are very nearly six million motor vehicle accidents – and three million injuries – occurring over the course of a year here in the United States alone, let alone anywhere else in the world where such incidents are also commonplace. And these cases can be the result of negligent driving. Driving while drunk (or otherwise under the influence) is very common indeed, as too is driving while distracted. Driving distracted, as a matter of fact, is far more dangerous indeed than many people give it credit for being, and can all too easily result in life threatening – or life ending – consequences.
Medical malpractice, in addition to car accident cases and product liability, is another common personal injury case. Like car accident cases, medical malpractice can occur in a number of different ways. For instance, medical malpractice can occur as the result of a botched surgical procedure, something that can leave patients with life long complications and the need for more medical intervention. Birth injuries have also been known to lead to medical malpractice cases. All throughout the United States, therefore, this type of personal injury case has made a name for itself, so to speak.
And cases of environmental law are also growing and growing in importance, right alongside cases of product liability and other such personal injury cases. After all, more and more people are becoming concerned with various aspects of climate change – and how we contribute to it. The data shows this clearly, supporting this claim with the fact that up to a full 40% of the American population is now in some way concerned with climate change. Such people might worry about everything from refrigerants to radon exposure to methane and carbon emissions. Indoor and outdoor pollution, particulate matter, the tropospheric ozone, and volatile organic compounds have also become topics of concern.
And this concern is far from misplaced, as many parts of the world are already beginning to bear the impact of climate change. Here in the United States, such impacts have not yet been felt profoundly – but they will begin to be sooner than most people think. As a matter of fact, it is actually even likely that water shortages will begin to occur in up to one third of all counties found in the lower United States all over the course of the next few decades. And if nothing is done to halt this, the problem will only grow worse and worse with the passage of time.
Fortunately, matters of environmental law can be used to stop climate change – or to at least mitigate its worst effects on the populations that are being particularly impacted by it. For instance, it has been found that shutting down one single industrial plant will actually save as many as 5,000 lives from the surrounding community over the course of a single year. In addition to this, cases of pulmonary disease as well as heart disease will also be quite drastically reduced. Therefore, it is clear to see just how important matters of environmental law, including cases of pollution liability, can really be.
At the end of the day, from product liability to pollution liability, there are many important legal cases being fought over the course of a year here in the United States.
